Cohiba began in 1966 as cigars rolled for Fidel Castro and the people around him, and was not sold to the public until 1982. It is still the most tightly controlled marca in the Habanos portfolio. The leaf comes from selected vegas in the San Juan y Martinez and San Luis zones of the Vuelta Abajo, and the ligero and seco undergo a third fermentation in barrels that no other Cuban brand uses. That extra step is where the grassy, honeyed sweetness people recognise as Cohiba comes from. The range runs from the Linea Clasica through the 1492 Siglo series to Behike at the top, with machine-made Minis, Clubs and Shorts at the accessible end.
